Omega 6 works in the body to cause inflammation. We need to have this response in the body when there is injury that requires attention from our immune system. For example, if there is a small cut in an artery, omega 6 helps the area become inflamed in order to signal to the body that cholesterol needs to be sent to that location to heal the injury. The problem in America is our diets are too high in the Omega 6 fats and low in Omega 3 fats (anti-inflammatory) so we tend to become chronically inflamed. So the key is a balance between the two.
